The Blues Brothers - Music from the Soundtrack
Descrizione
Comic actors John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd rightfully get credit for exposing many people to the music of Blues and R&B veterans. The soundtrack to their hugely successful musical comedy Blues Brothers was released on June 20, 1980 as the second album by the Blues Brothers Band, which also toured that year to promote the film. The rollicking remake of the Spencer Davis Group’s “Gimme Some Lovin’” was a Billboard Top 20 hit, featuring an arrangement notable for the horn section that replaces Steve Winwood’s rumbling organ work. Ray Charles has a good time with “Shake a Tail Feather,” and he’s helped out by Jake and Elwood Blues (Belushi and Aykroyd, respectively). The cover of Solomon Burke’s “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love” is a lot of fun, thanks to the great overall rhythm and Elwood’s lightning-fast stage rap, while James Brown and the Reverend James Cleveland Choir provide a blast of gospel music on “Old Landmark.” Aretha Franklin’s “Think” is explosive, and Cab Calloway’s “Minnie the Moocher” is slyly irresistible.

The movie hit of 2014, Interstellar, chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. While the film is directed by acclaimed Christopher Nolan (Inception, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight…), the epic soundtrack score was composed by Nolan's longtime collaborator, Oscar, Grammy, and Golden Globe Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer. Zimmer and Nolan planned to move away from the Batman Trilogy's scores and to come up with a unique one. Before (re)writing a word of Interstellar, Nolan did something he had never done before, something that speaks to his desire for more emotionally potent work. He asked composer Hans Zimmer to write some music for the film, but without telling him about the genre, title, characters, or plot: 'I said, 'I am going to give you an envelope with a letter in it. One page. It's going to tell you the fable at the center of the story. You work for one day, then play me what you have written'. He was up for it. And it was perfect. He gave me the heart of the movie'. Zimmer says he remembers this idea from Nolan's letter: 'Once we become parents, we can't help but look at ourselves through the eyes of our children'. Zimmer conducted 45 scoring sessions for Interstellar, which was three times more than for Inception. Interstellar's score has been nominated for the 2015 Oscars, BAFTA Awards, Golden Globes and the Hollywood Music in Media Awards.

The Nightmare Before Christmas: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the 1993 soundtrack to the film of the same name. Composed by Danny Elfman, the soundtrack was nominated for the 1993 Golden Globe for Best Original Score. The album peaked at #98 on the Billboard 200.[2] For the film's 2006 re-release in Disney Digital 3-D, a special edition of the soundtrack was released, a bonus disc which contained covers of five of the film's songs by Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, Marilyn Manson, Fiona Apple and She Wants Revenge. Four original demo tracks by Elfman were also included.

40 years after movie audiences began singing along to such hits as "The Time Warp," "Sweet Transvestite" and "Dammit Janet," THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW fans can own a piece of history with the newly re-mastered ABSOLUTE TREASURES soundtrack. Due out July 31 on Ode Sounds & Visuals and distributed by The Orchard, the soundtrack will be available as a limited-edition red vinyl two-disc set, and CD and as a digital release, which includes a bonus track will be available on August 21.
The red vinyl was created to honor the film's legacy and the devotion from fans to create something unique to celebrate this historic occasion. "The Rocky Horror Picture Show has always had a mind of its own fueled by the insight and direction of its fans," says producer, Lou Adler.
The influence of the cult classic, which has been entertaining movie audiences since its debut, now spans four generations. "I recently heard a story about a man who went to see Rocky in the early 70's," says Adler. "He later had a daughter who went to see Rocky in the 90's, and she now has a son, who just turned 15, and is seeing Rocky in the 2000's. Proves that what I always said: "Rocky Horror is a family film." Because The Rocky Horror Picture Show is generally screened at midnight, age is a factor. But as tweens become teens, they come to be the next generation of fans. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is in a way a right of passage"
The digital release of ABSOLUTE TREASURES will include the movie's vocal version of "The Sword of Damocles" According to soundtrack producer Richard Hartley, "There were two artists who recorded "The Sword of Damocles." Director, Jim Sharman and I were looking/listening for the "Glam" rock sound of a Bowie and or a T. Rex. We wanted a falsetto voice for Rocky, because after all he was just born. The vocal performance in the film is that of an Australian singer. It was recorded live on the set, I think on the 19th of December 1974. And that's the version that's in the film. The one that has been included on soundtrack albums is the alternate take by one of the backing singers, which was used as something for the actor playing Rocky to mime to."

Limited edition of 5,000 pressings. Note that this release has been advertised across multiple websites as having various different release numbers. Slashfilm and First Showing, for example, have it at 1,000 pressings. Modern Vinyl have it listed as being limited to 2,000 pressings. Here at Soundtracks on Vinyl we’ve confirmed some of these have shipped numbered, others haven’t. Those that have, however, confirm a pressing number of 5,000. You can find this verified from many sellers, but here’s one on Amazon where the seller confirms it is physically numbered 4268/5000. The conclusion as a collector is that the actual number of pressings is 5,000.

The Hateful Eight soundtrack box set Limited Edition
For the soundrack for his latest film, The Hateful Eight, director Quentin Tarantino tapped classic composer Ennio Morricone to compose an original score, eschewing his typical approach for wide-ranging musical pastiche. Well, for the most part, at least — the film still contains quite possibly the weirdest use of a White Stripes song since Napoleon Dynamite.
But we're sure it's more than just the White Stripes connection that led to Jack White's Third Man Records securing the vinyl release of the Golden Globe-winning soundtrack. Like White, Tarantino has an affection for all things retro and weird: The Hateful Eight originally screened as a 70mm print as part of an old-fashioned limited run roadshow. So it only makes sense that for the vinyl release, Third Man is pulling out all the stops.
They're selling the soundtrack as both a standard 180-gram double-LP as well as a limited edition 7-inch box set on "blood red" vinyl. The box set features a number of hand-made touches, ranging from the impressive (like a galvanized steel carrying case with real bullet holes) to the bizarre (a metal noose pin and a replica of the film's blood-soaked letter from Abe Lincoln).
Fans can pick up the box set — which was limited to a release of 500 — from Third Man Records Cass Corridor in Detroit on Jan. 25.

Waxwork Records proudly presents the expanded and deluxe soundtrack release to TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE THE MOVIE. This classic anthology horror film released in 1990 features many big name acting talents such as Debbie Harry, Christian Slater, Steve Buscemi, David Johansen, and James Remar. John Harrison (Creepshow) acted as both the film’s director and the soundtrack’s composer. The film was written by George A. Romero (Night Of The Living Dead) and Stephen King. TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE THE MOVIE has been referred to as “ The Real Creepshow 3” by horror movie special effects legend, Tom Savini (Dawn Of The Dead, From Dusk Till Dawn).
For this expanded, definitive soundtrack release, Waxwork Records worked closely with John Harrison to track down the original master tapes in the Paramount Pictures vault. Upon locating them, Waxwork faithfully restored and remastered the entire soundtrack for vinyl. Much of the music contained in this new release does not appear on the original 1990 album which is now out of print and has become a collector’s item amongst both horror fans and record collectors.
Fans of horror movies and synth heavy scores will find Waxwork’s TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE THE MOVIE vinyl release right at home in their spider web encrusted record collection.

This is the first ever vinyl pressing of Franz Waxman’s film score to the classic horror movie.
First 1000 copies are numbered and printed on “slime green” vinyl.
The pressing comes with a printed movie poster.

Ever since the classic Horror movie genre was at its peak during the pre-WWII era, Mary Shelley’s The Bride Of Frankenstein (1935) starring Boris Karloff still remains the true cream of the crop. The black and white movie, directed by James Whale, is a prime example of how suspense meets great storytelling, the film’s thriller elements making it a benchmark for many film directors.
Its score was written by Franz Waxman, the legendary German-American classic composer with an impressive number of Academy Award Nominations movies to his name. Waxman wrote engaging soundtracks for classic films such as Rebecca (1940), Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1941), Sunset Boulevard (1950), The Nun’s Story (1959) and many more.
